Reader’s Theater Story for Improving End of Grade Test Success Published by Playbooks, Inc.
Rancho Santa Margarita, CA (February 4, 2010) – Playbooks® Reader’s Theater Companyhas recently published a new story designed to help students learn effective test-taking skills. With End of Grade (EOG) tests approaching as most schools enter the second half of the year, teachers hope their students are learning the class material, but just knowing the material is not enough. Questionella and the Perfect Prince: A Fairy Tale of Multiple Choices gives students the tools they need to combat test anxiety and pick the correct answers on a multiple choice test.
An entertaining, multi-cultural twist to the classic tale of Cinderella, this story provides a universal lesson that makes it ideal for students across a broad range … from Grades 4 - 12! The story follows the tale of a young woman who lives in the enchanted kingdom of Think-a-lot, facing her fear of tests as she strives to earn a scholarship to the royal University. Along with Questionella, readers will learn how to choose the best response out of four possible choices when all of them say “Choose me!”
The story project was created by a brother and sister team of teachers: Gregory Brown, a reading specialist, and Kimberly Brown, a music teacher, both of whom have earned Teacher of the Year status. Pooling their talents brought a new dimension to the book—a fun “Multiple Choice Rap” that accompanies the story on CD and helps students remember the practical strategies forever! EOG tests are an important part of analyzing student progress, and with proper preparation for students, they can most accurately record student academic growth. View the “Multiple Choice Rap” video and find out more about the story at http://www.playbooks.com/blasts/October09/October09.html.
The story is written in Playbooks, Inc.’s patented multi-leveled and color coded Reader's Theater format for building reading fluency. Reader’s Theater is reading a story like a play without memorization, props, or a stage, and provides an easy way for teachers to utilize performing arts as a practical daily or weekly activity that builds reading fluency, comprehension, and confidence at the same time.
About the Authors
Gregory is a reading specialist who teaches in his home state of North Carolina. He received both his Theater Arts and Masters in Elementary Education degrees from East Carolina University. When he also became certified in reading and trained in Reading Recovery, he realized that writing Readers Theater scripts was one of the best ways to help his students become fluent readers and improve their self-esteem. Having been insecure about his own reading abilities as a young boy, he now lives out a childhood dream by helping all kids feel more comfortable with books.
Kimberly Brown is an elementary school music teacher also in the state of North Carolina. She is currently teaching in the Lee County School System with 20 years of experience. Kim received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Campbell University. Kim loves teaching reading and many other subjects through the use of music. She sees music as a subject that can reach inside of individuals and bring them together as a community.
